Our Cocoon 'no origami' baby Swaddle Bags are designed to be both easy to use and difficult to escape from. The simple zip up design will keep baby snug and securely swaddled without the need for complicated wrapping. There are press stud poppers in the armholes that convert this swaddle into your baby's first sleeping bag once they are able to roll their body over.

Being TOG-rated means that the 1.0 TOG swaddle can be used on its own in room temperatures between 70-75°F with no blankets in the bassinet or crib to make this a safe sleep option for a newborn or baby and an ideal warm-weather swaddle. Parents can layer up underneath as needed for more warmth, and follow our handy FREE what to wear guide included with the product to help them dress their child appropriately. We recommend pairing this with one of our TOG-rated rompers underneath (sold separately).

The Cocoon Swaddle Bag is made from Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton that is non-toxic and gentle on sensitive and/or irritable skin. All ergoPouch fabrics are dyed with non-toxic water based dyes. The Cocoon Swaddle Bag is reviewed by the Eczema Association of Australasia (EAA) as a skin-friendly product.

  • 2 IN 1 – converts from a swaddle to a sleeping bag by opening the poppers in the armholes once your baby can roll onto their tummy or back.
  • TOG rated – 1.0 TOG is designed for mild temperatures when your child’s room is between 21-23C° (70-75F). With a TOG rated swaddle, you don’t need any additional blankets.
  • Organic Cotton and Bamboo – skin-friendly as it promotes breathability and prevents sweat resting on the skin.
  • 2-way zipper – getting your baby in and out of this swaddle is so simple and nappy changes are made easier (no need to take the whole swaddle off). It is also difficult to wriggle out from, creating longer sleeps (hooray!).
  • Friendly for Hips – the Cocoon Swaddle Bag has a bell-shaped bottom so that your baby's legs can rest naturally outwards during sleep making it officially hip-friendly.
  • Super Stretchy – there is stretch in all directions which allows for growth spurts, full chest expansion and a very comfortable swaddle for your baby to sleep in.

When cared for properly, this product will last several years and can be used for more than one baby. Our TOGs don't lose their warmth ratings over time, but a gentle fluff up in the dryer on a low setting helps maintain the fibre's loft, allowing air to circulate more effectively.

In the early days after birth, a newborn will experience a startle reflex. This reflex causes the hands and body to jerk during sleep, and this action can often wake or unsettle them. Using a swaddle can help contain this sudden movement and prevent waking. Swaddling can also soothe and settle them to sleep by providing a feeling of containment, similar to their experience in the confined space of a womb. Our Cocoon Swaddle Bag also has the following benefits:

  • Keeping baby’s body warm in the early stages when their ability to regulate body temperature is still developing.
  • A hug! A baby would love to spend the whole night bundled up in their parent’s warm arms so swaddles help create that sensation of being hugged.
  • Can help a baby focus on feeding by keeping their arms and legs out of the way.
  • Prevents baby from scratching themselves with their nails.
  • Swaddling = a longer sleep for everyone!

We recommend that you start with at least two Cocoon Swaddle Bags, one to wear and one in the wash. A baby can be a messy creature with leaking nappies and spitting up milk! If you are tacking different room temperatures in the day, opt for two in each TOG rating

  1. Open the Cocoon and lay on a low, flat surface
  2. Lay your baby on top, and zip up from the bottom. You can choose to have their arms down at their side, or across their chest when you zip up based on sleeping preference.
  3. To change their nappy, zip up from the bottom to release their legs and lower torso. You do not need to fully upzip the Cocoon, or release their arms, for this.
  4. To transition to arms-out sleeping, open the arm-poppers at the shoulders before dressing your child in the Cocoon.
  5. Sleep your child in their Cocoon Swaddle Bag with their feet touching the end of their bassinet or cot.
